about

As a migrant of sorts, I always thought living in America would be easier. I didn't think the streets would be paved with gold, but I figured I'd at least be able to pay rent and have enough change for a Big Gulp, so here's a song about working for minimum wage:

I'm writing to you from the sweet land of liberty,
'cause I met a girl and we started a family.
The streets aren't paved with gold, but I own lots of stuff
I've even got three jobs 'cause one isn't enough

Dear Mum & Dad, I'm working for a living wage, most every day.
I'm saving all the money that I don't get paid, for Saturday.

I could put the blame on the failing economy;
Don't know if you heard, but it's not what it used to be.
Four score and seven years: a good time to retire,
Dedicated to unfinished work, right down to the wire.

I'm living in the land of opportunity, but shit ain't cheap.
I'm hoping for some kind of security, first word woe is me.

We are not communists, we are not capitalists, we just want part of it,
'cause it's apparent now, economists have found that there's enough to go around.
